Apple: Amazing products, Beautiful videos

As usual Apple is producing amazing videos, together of course with nicely designed hardware! Yes, they are overprices, sometimes, but this is an other story! In the first video we have the Mac Pro! And I a quoting: “It is a computer unlike any we have ever created. To build it, we pioneered new processes, innovated manufacturing techniques, and essentially rethought how to make a computer. This is the story of how it all comes together”. Most of those are so true! At least at the manufacturing side!

And for the second video we have the iPad! Not exactly a video focused just on the new device, introduced less than 24 hours ago, but on the impact this table created on the world! Again a quote from Apple: “Over the past three years, iPad has helped people transform business, education, entertainment, health, and many other fields. We wanted to document those changes. During three weeks in September and October of 2013, we traveled the world to see how people are using iPad. Here are some of the examples we found”

Beyond the Visible: The Very Large Array

Created in 2013 as the new interpretive film for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory’s Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) public Visitor Center, this 24-minute production explores the synergies of technology and human curiosity that power the world’s most productive radio telescope. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Jodie Foster (star of the film “Contact,” which was based on the novel by Carl Sagan and filmed at the VLA), the program depicts many of the people whose diverse efforts enable the VLA to be a cutting-edge resource for astronomers and humanity worldwide

Robot, Draw me my portrait

At Futur en Seine in France, ENSCI Engineering school presented the results of a year of reflection on robots, their role in manufacturing and their place in our daily lives. Of the projects presented by ENSCI and its FabLab, one in particular captured the spotlight. Each visitor who wished could be “captured” by a small robot based on the project designed by students Paul Couderc, Xavier Dufour Thimothé Montoy. From a Microsoft Kinect device that was capturing the image at time T, each person was reproduced by an ABB robot with a black felt pen. The concept was a great success with visitors, who selected it to receive the Audience Award. This award recognized the robot and at the same time the work of students from ENSCI School

Mauna Kea Heavens Timelapse

A friend of mine sent me this video link a few minutes a ago and I was mesmerised by that! It is truly amazing! Extremely well made that worth the three minutes of your life without a question asked. The creator is Sean Goebel and he says: “It’s a timelapse of the observatories atop Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The summit is at an altitude of nearly 14,000 ft and is the premiere site for astronomy in the Northern Hemisphere. As an astronomy graduate student at the University of Hawaii, I’ve enjoyed excellent access to the facility. This montage was filmed on three nights in April (I was observing on one of the telescopes and would walk outside when things got boring) and four nights during summer 2013”.
