General Electric Meets Google Glass

General Electric works on things that matter. The best people and the best technologies taking on the toughest challenges. Finding solutions in energy, health and home, transportation and finance. Building, powering, moving and curing the world. Not just imagining. Doing. At least those are the words of GE, not mine! But in reality lot of things around us are made, designed or perfected by GE. And this video fits in this category as well! The aviation team demonstrated a non-destructive test on a GE 90 engine with a Glass-enabled crew. This prototype presents an opportunity that is right around the corner and will yield incredible efficiencies in maintenance

Energy F1 Engine

Well, this is just a Formula 1 engine! It is from Renault and is going to be used for the next seasons championship. I am not going to speak about performance figures and technology behind it and the amount of time/money it needs to R&D one of those things. You can easily find those on the net. The only thing I am going to say is that from the time the engineers and technicians put this on a car, the driver will feel many types of pleasures! But come on! It looks amazing like that as well. Even without the car! I can easily have on of those, exactly like it’s in the photo, in my living room! No problem at all! Shiny metal, crafted carbon fibber, perfect curves matched with rough angles and respect. Huge respect for the R&D team that can make something so powerful and beautiful together! So please, can anyone buy me one of those? Please, please… I will give him a big hug!

SuperDraco rocket engine

This photo is from Elon Musk personal twitter feed. It shows the ignition process of a newly designed rocket engine call it SuperDraco (yes, without a space between the two words). Technically it’s an updated Draco engine that utilize the same storable, non-cryogenic, propellant as the privies thruster but are over 100 times larger in terms of delivered thrust! Megafactories: Boeing 747-8

For years Boeing was on of the top commercially oriented plane manufacturing company in the world. The most iconic model of the brand is the 747 and for more than 40 years was the indisputably queen of the air! But recently the crown was lost by the most high tech design out there, the Airbus A380. In this National Geographic documentary (from the Megafactories series) Boeing is trying to decrease the gab and take its crown back with the 747-8

How YouTube Works

Probably you have already spend multiple hours watching videos on YouTube. But do you know how this internet service actually works? Do you know for example that the little spinning wheel at the beginning of every video is a small gif picture that on the background is trying to figure out connection speeds and best server-client transmission methodology? This video will explain a lot to you and probably it will give you a few a-ha moments. By the way, have a look at the Computerphile channel. Lots of amazing videos on IT technology like this one.

DARPA Robotics Challenge

“Robots are coming of age. As part of the DARPA Robotics Challenge, Lockheed Martin developing autonomous systems that work together with human operators. This collaborative approach applies across many platforms and domain. Our research will eventually allow humans to be more efficient and effective in challenging environments that are difficult or too dangerous to access today”. Good luck to that! Hope for amazing results!

Stealth technology 101

This is a fast but condense video about the primaries of stealth technology. Alan Brown, the first Chief Engineer of the F-117, explain how lowering radar cross-section numbers is all a matter of angles and degrees. The video is from Lockheed Martin, one of the pioneers and possible the best company on this field nowadays. Of course, the geometrical architecture is only one part of the story. Radar absorbent materials (RAM), plasma technologies and/or even speed are some of the research topics on this technology for years. Probably scientists and engineers have already discover more techniques to solve this problem but because the solutions are close related to military technology we aren’t going to hear about them anytime soon. Remember, the F117 Nighthawk fighter jet (commonly know as the Stealth Fighter) was top secret and pretty much an non exciting plane for almost a decade. And it was based in a late 70s early 80s tech! Can you imagine what is going on now? If yes, then drop a comment below

Ferrari: Classic but beautiful

This is a classic Ferrari! It is not so powerful like the newer ones nor carrying the top of the line specs. But it’s still amazing to looking at her! Nice curved lines, red colour that triggers the eye and a V12 engine on the frond bay. I don’t know who took the photo or how much he photoshoped it but has a well done from me. Of course, my greeting to the owner that for sure he paid a big figure to own it and possible to restore it

This video demonstrates exactly this collaboration (and the results it brings) between a tech startup company and the probably the leader into CAD design, Autodesk. Lots of nice design snapshots and overall a well made presentation video
