Pushing the Envelope


New Shepard flew again on April 2, 2016 reaching an apogee of 339,178 feet or 103 kilometers. It was the third flight with the same hardware. Engineers pushed the envelope on this flight, restarting the engine for the propulsive landing only 3,600 feet above the ground, requiring the BE-3 engine to start fast and ramp to high thrust fast

Blue Origin


Blue Origin’s New Shepard space vehicle successfully flew to space, reaching its planned test altitude of 329,839 feet (100.5 kilometers) before executing a historic landing back at the launch site in West Texas. This is the second player on the reusable space rockets market! The other one is SpaceX

Not a failure! Just another step forward

SuperDraco rocket engine


This photo is from Elon Musk personal twitter feed. It shows the ignition process of a newly designed rocket engine call it SuperDraco (yes, without a space between the two words). Technically it’s an updated Draco engine that utilize the same storable, non-cryogenic, propellant as the privies thruster but are over 100 times larger in terms of delivered thrust!
